Cooperative Extension Seeks Applicants for Extension Master Food Volu...

Durham, N.C. – Love cooking and giving back to your community? The Durham County Cooperative Extension is seeking applicants for its Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) Program. Interested residents are invited to join an upcoming information session to learn how they can turn their skills and passion into meaningful support for families across Durham.

The EMFV Program is designed for individuals who want to make an impact in their community through food education and service. EMFVs support and amplify Cooperative Extension’s nutrition and cooking programs and can lead their own cooking demos in the community.

Individuals accepted into the program will participate in five Saturday training sessions in January and February 2027, gaining hands-on experience in cooking, food and kitchen safety, nutrition, food systems, and more. After completing the intensive training, program participants will commit to 30 service hours per year with Durham County Cooperative Extension and complete 10 hours of continuing education opportunities annually.

Cooperative Extension will begin accepting applications for the 2027 EMFV Program cohort later this summer. To apply, interested individuals must attend an information session. During the session, participants will learn more about Durham County Cooperative Extension and the Extension Master Food Volunteer Program, hear details about the EMFV role, and talk with program staff.
